It's no secret to my friends, family and yoga students that I love essential oils, using them myself, on loved ones, and sharing them in my yoga classes. I’d experienced DoTERRA essential oils from a friend who would send my oils for Christmas. I started noticing that I was drawn more to the gifted oils than the normal ones I was buying from a health shop. In 2015 I signed up as a DoTERRA Wellness Advocate, so I could bring them into my life and share them with other people also looking for tools to enhance their wellbeing naturally. Now I see myself more as a Essential Oil Educator, teaching about these amazing oils.
Signing up with a kit, gave me many different oils to experiment with so I could really get started with sharing them, and using them holistically on myself and family. I use these oils regularly, if not everyday, most days. They enhance and assist my own body's inner healing ability. I have found these specific brand of essential oils specifically brilliant at triggering an inner ability to sooth and assist in healing, from tummy aches, ear ache, growing pains, all sorts of common ailments.
Ive had my children crying many a time with something wrong, and on checking my essential oil bible "Home Essentials Guide' (I got my copy from Amazon UK), I've found the right oil for their discomfort....soon enough after applying the essential oil advised, their body soon responds and they feel calm once again as the uncomfortable feelings subside. I am amazed every time! Growing pains are a regular thing during the night in my house, with 3 growing boys......a carrier oil (almond, coconut) mixed with a few drops of 'White Fir' works like a treat, nature providing everything it has given, for assisting in healing for centuries. Our ancestors, forefathers would have tapped into nature, carried their knowledge down generations, somehow we have lost this......
Being a sufferer of 2 auto-immune conditions for the past decade, my nervous system can often get 'shot', 'frayed', 'stressed', if too busy, or with general stresses our fast-paced lives bring. I have found these oils have made so much difference to coping through these times, as adrenal stress/fatigue for me contributes to a flare-ups, of one or both of my conditions, I have found life considerable more comfortable since using them. There is always an oil for calming, grounding, uplifting, you name it, there is an oil for everything!
I also love to meditate, and I have found many an oil to deepen this part of my life, my 'get away', 'escape'.......'Cedarwood', 'Vetiver', 'Sandalwood', 'Myrrh', 'Frankincense' to name a few. I use uplifting 'Bergamot' or 'Wild Orange' on days I feel 'blue' and need uplifting, on an emotional level they work wonders. On a hormonal level I am never without my precious bottle of 'Clary Sage', or the already blended roll-on bottle of 'Clary Calm' (this is a blend specifically designed for women on 'low' hormonal days), these two specific oils I can't live without. Thanks to these oils I am still married!! On a physical level, for pain, I use 'Deep Blue' which has helped (a non-chemical version of Deep Heat), also 'Wintergreen', 'White Fir', 'Lavender' all have analgesic properties which can ease pain.
So, I would describe myself, and my other half would pretty much agree I am a 'roller coaster' kind of woman, never a dull moment, full of emotion and feelings, can be high with happiness or low as you can get, crying it out shifting layers......I’m very emotional being a Cancerian with my Moon in Pisces (watery mix which means tears tears tears, happy tears, sad, tears, grateful tears, sentiments tears.....just flows when it comes!) So as you can imagine, I adore my bottles of 'preciousness' straight from mother nature. I have daily, weekly, monthly and sometimes hourly assistance, they are my tool and often have been a life-line!
One of my most exciting AHA moments, confirming how amazing these essential oils truly are (DoTTERRA's oils), happened recently..........which is the point of me writing this, sharing one of my private experiences. It was a close shave I had with an auto-immune condition, which was totally saved using an essential oil!!
Being an Ulcerative Colitis sufferer for nearly a decade, I know what it is like to need daily medication and the fear of flare-ups. The power of these oils really hit me on a recent overnight stay in London. Staying in a hotel room, with my family consisting of husband, and three kids (boys 9, 8, and 2yrs old!). Before flying off the next afternoon, I had breakfast in the hotel. Being gluten and dairy free, it somewhat limiting with choice, so I mistakingly had a couple of slices of fresh grapefruit that morning with breakfast. This, and most citric fruit, being a trigger for my colitis, it was a rather mindless thing to eat. Within an hour I realised I had made a stupid error, a blind error, but no less, an error!! I was experiencing painful cramping pains in my small intestines, waves of cramp high in my upper abdomen!! Seeing as I hadn't packed any 'emergency' steroids, which would be the normal course of action if home, which would assist in calming down an inflammation flare-up, 'shit' came to mind, no pun intended!!
My three boys were of high energy in the hotel room......picture a 'double bed' and 'two single beds' all packed close together as one big bouncy trampoline for them to run and jump on! The air slightly tinged with stress, fights can easily breakout with the older two! So, I am lying on the corner of a bed, stretched out holding my cramps, thinking of my options.....thoughts of me needing to return home, missing holiday totally, or having to find an expensive doctor abroad. Having a colitis attack on our first family holiday for 5 years ago filled me with horror, you get the picture!?
So, breath.......taking a moment to think of how to work this out, what did I have with me? Luckily I had brought my essential oil safety first aid kit I made up for travel, incase of mosquito bites, cuts, earache, tummy ache. Of course anything can happen with children so I was a prepared mum! Praise the lord, and I am not religious, but I had brought my bottle of DigestZen (now named ZenGest). This blended essential oil is soothing and cooling for the digestive system, so I thought I would give it a shot. I do use this blend at home but always as a preventative rather than a cure/crisis moment! To be honest, although I know and have experienced amazing benefits and responses from using the oils, I wasn't expecting much, let alone a miracle!. Having a hard time with the condition in the early days, a decade ago, I have much fear of flare-ups. I am pretty good at managing it at home, I know it well now and trust I have it under control to a certain degree.
I kept flashing looks of worry at my husband as the waves of cramps came one after another. On rubbing the oil all over the said area, taking a couple of drops under my tongue, washing it down with water (internally taken so it could get directly down into my digestive system), also adding to the intestinal reflex points on my feet.....treble whammy the only way forward I thought, nothing to loose and everything like saving our holiday to gain! Well, blow me down!! The pain started easing after about 40 minutes, just tuning into the oils I had sinking into my cells, breathing in the aroma......I felt my shoulders sink, a big sigh of relief, trusting it was going to be okay. After 90 minutes I was totally free from the cramps, and we went on our holiday, had a fabulous time....hence, I did use the Digestzen during my holiday just to keep my intestines cool and soothed. Wow, wow, wow!
My intuition has lead me to bring these oils into my life, using them as a holistic tool, a medicine cabinet to assist in my own inner healing. Trusting and feeling these extracted oils which come direct from Mother Nature have the ability to prompt our own immune system to react and response from the inside, not only mild ailments but from my experience more serious illness awakenings......they never cease to amaze me!
